AC/DC’s new music video clip ‘Realize’
AC/DC have released the music video for their latest single, Realize. This is the opening track to their chart topping Power Up album.
It may seem that the whole band was performing on a stage, but it wasn’t. The video clip was shot in a Covid-safe social distancing way. The members of AC/DC were all filmed in separate locations. John Cheuse is the band’s creative director and Clemens Habicht was editing the individual clips together.
Angus Young was to France’s Heavy1 TV about writing “Realize” with his late brother Malcolm Young.
“We spent a fair bit of time on it, It was another strong idea that he had. For me, I knew how much he really liked it. I remember when we originally were writing it, the effort that he put in and how he built it up.”
“The thing is, I remember we had the music side of it together, how we wanted to do it. And he gave me his hook idea, the chorus, When the gave me the verse idea, of how he wanted the lyric, he sang it to me roughly. I heard it, and it stuck in my head all day. I just kind of thought, How clever is he? He just comes up with something. It was one of those things where I kept repeating it and repeating it in my head.”
Angus continued: “Sometimes I used to think, ‘I don’t know where he pulls these ideas from.’ For him, a song wasn’t a combination of riffs and hooks and that. For him, he just had a kind of natural gift. … Whenever he created a song, the parts would all come together — lyrics, music and even kind of the dynamic of it.”
Angus recalls “So it was a never a case with the two of us [where we] just settled for the chords you first hit or something. You went through all the different angles with him. … Say you were doing it at that tempo or a different way, sometimes we may even go back to another route and go, ‘Okay, try it from another perspective.’ With this one, though, he had it just so clear, and it stuck with me.”

Angus Young talks about AC/DC and Axl Rose
In other news Angus Young paid tribute to Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose for coming in as frontman for AC/DC to cover for Brian Johnson when Brian was forced to quit touring due to issues with his hearing. Young confirms that Axl Rose and AC/DC never recorded any music together.
Young spoke to Rolling Stone about the time with Axl Rose in AC/DC
“Sometimes when you’re in the thick of something, it is hard to make decisions,” Young admits “but you try and go, ‘Well, I’ll try and do the best with a bad situation.’ And when Brian got his hearing problem, he was advised he shouldn’t be continuing [touring].”
“We had a few commitments that we were locked into and I didn’t want to sit in a room full of lawyers and battle [cancellations] out with a lot of people. So the suggestion was, ‘OK, maybe somebody might be able to fill in and do those dates.’ And Axl Rose contacted us. I’ll be forever grateful for him for doing that. He was very pro about doing it. He really gave a great performance.”
When Rolling Stone writer Kory Grow says to Young ‘Axl said that he thought you and he might work on some music together. Did that ever come about?’, Young says “No, no. That never happened.”
It’s a shame there was no recording at all, maybe one day a rehearsal recording from someone’s phone might show up online?
