A young teenager has uncovered photos from Nirvana’s first ever gig back in 1987. Maggie Poukkula, 19 posted a few photos of the show on Twitter tweeting “Pictures of my dad and Kurt Cobain playing together back in the day.”
Her father was Tony Poukkula, he was a member of the Seattle band – Laytem. Tony grew up with Kurt Cobain and the gig was at his house in his basement, back in 1987. The lineup of Nirvana at that time was Cobain, Krist Novoselic on bass and Aaron Burckhard on drums. But at their first gig Tony Poukkula joined as second guitarist to play a couple of Led Zeppelin covers.
Maggie tells Rolling Stone “I had no idea that those were during Nirvana’s first concert,” She continues “My dad showed me them a while back, but he never mentioned that’s what was going on in the photos. I found out because of all the articles. I didn’t realize it was such a historical thing. I thought they were just cool pictures of my dad and Kurt jamming together.” Maggie told Rolling Stone she found the photos in her father’s books of Cobain and Nirvana.
