Things you might not have known about MotorheadPaul Truscot
Being one of the biggest rock and roll bands of all time, Motorhead paved the way for a new wave of heavy metal, especially in Britain. With motorhead being one of the best and most notorious bands to date, let’s dig deep into some interesting facts and learn some things you might not have known about Motorhead.
Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister was the sole constant member
Over the years, the face of the band did change and there was a total of 10 different members. These included Larry Wallis, Lucas Fox, Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, “Fast” Eddie Clarke, Brian “Robbo” Robertson, Phil “Wizzo” Campbell, Michael “Wurzel” Burston, Pete Gill, Mikey Dee and of course Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, the sole constant member of Motorhead.
Motorhead was developed by Lemmy’s former band
The band’s name was the result of a song Lemmy wrote while he was a member of the progressive rock band Hawkwind. “Motorhead” is a slang term for a “speed freak,” or amphetamine user. Lemmy considered calling the band “Bastard,” but was told that they’d never get played on the BBC’s “Top of the Pops” with a name like that.
Lemmy wrote alongside Ozzy Osbourne
Lemmy helped write four songs on Ozzy Osbourne’s 1991 mega-selling No More Tears album. He later admitted that he made more money off the royalties from those four songs than he ever did from Motorhead.
‘You Better Run’ was featured on Spongebob
A Motorhead song appears on the 2004 soundtrack to The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. “You Better Swim” is a re-worked version of the 1992 song “You Better Run.”
Motorhead was nominated for several Grammy
Motorhead was nominated for several Grammy awards during their career, but their only win was in 2005 for a cover of Metallica’s “Whiplash.” Lemmy later called the award a “mercy f**k” from the Grammy academy, and that the win would’ve meant more if it had been for one of Motorhead’s original songs.
Lemmy’s funeral service was live-streamed on YouTube
