Watch Metallica play ‘Enter Sandman’ on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Metallica played their first performance for 2021 on a Super Bowl edition on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Stephen Colbert introduces Metallica and it cuts to the band playing in what looks like Metallica’s storage and memorabilia warehouse. The band is spread out and they practised social distancing James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo played their smash 1991 hit ‘Enter Sandman’

Playing on the floor the background is chock full of amps from previous special event appearances rom The X-Games, The San Francisco Giants “Metallica Night”, New York Yankees pinstripes, NBA Finals game, Racing stripe M from the St. Anger tour and there was even one of Rob Trujillo’s bass cabs with the name of one of his old bands Infectious Grooves.

Metallica have played “Enter Sandman” in almost every gig since they released the song. They’re released live versions of the songs including the S&M show where the band played with San Francisco Symphony led by maestro Michael Kamen. When played in large arenas sometimes explosives are set off at the 0:49 mark right when the main riff starts.

The song does have a little controversy as some people have noted that the riff to the song is ripped off from a lesser known metal band called Excel with their song Tapping Into The Emotional Void. You be the judge.
