Eddie Vedder sings with The Ramones at their final show
It was back 1996 Eddie Vedder joined the stage with The Ramones to sing Dave Clark Five’s song ‘Anyway You Want It’. Not everyone gets to play with their heroes but Eddie Vedder sure did at their final ever show.
After releasing their Album ‘Adious Amigoes’ in 1995 after about twenty years together Ramones decided to call it a day. They announced a large tour. Unfortunately they never made it to Australia to say “See ya later!”. Did we not show them enough love at their last Australian shows? Or wasn’t there enough love from Aussies buying their last album. It sucks we missed out. But our New Zealand cousins were lucky enough to see them!
Anyway their final show was at The Palace, Hollywood, which, as C.J. Ramone notes, was: “A real slap on the face for New York.” Other known musicians who loved Ramones also joined the stage such as: Lemmy from Motörhead, Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen of Rancid, and Chris Cornell and Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden.
Eddie Vedder had been a fan of the Ramones for many years and later become good friends with Johnny Ramone. He even inducted the band into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Vedder visited the Ramones museum and left behind a letter which read: “Long live the Ramones… the wave that is all breaking all the time — and to my good friend Johnny, how I miss you… Every day and forever… Wish you were here… Then again, you are.”
