Iggy Pop has released a new single, 'Frenzy'. The song is a return to form for the punk legend, with its fast pace and catchy hooks. Iggy is one of the most influential figures in rock n roll. He's had a bunch of different styles over the years. This 'Frenzy' is a rocker that sounds like it coulda come from a Stooges album.
On 19th October it was announced that Iggy signed a deal with Gold Tooth Records with producer - Andrew Watt. Not only is there a new single by Iggy but there's also a new album in the works. I hope it's as rockin' as 'Frenzy'.
In a recent statement about the deal Iggy says “I’m the guy with no shirt who rocks; Andrew and Gold Tooth get that, and we made a record together the old-fashioned way,†He adds “The players are guys I’ve known since they were kids and the music will beat the shit out of you.â€
Iggy last release was the 'Free' album in 2019, it had a more mellow, chill, jazz feel about it than his other rock albums. It's been declared by Watt that the new album is going to be a "rock album in every sense of the word". Watt says it's "high energy" and it has "all the things that I love about Iggy."

In addition, Watt says “We tried to go places musically that is familiar territory for the fans. It’s made from a fan’s perspective, of loving and worshipping Iggy Pop.†The musicians on the album include drummer Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, bassist Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, on guitar Josh Klinghoffer who also has played in Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“We kinda just had a conversation, like, ‘What do we want to hear Iggy sing on?'†Says Watt “So we’d just make stuff that made our hearts full, and I’d send it to him, and he’d write songs to it. It was really that simple.â€
Iggy Pop has been making music for over 50 years, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. "Frenzy" is yet another example of his continued ability to evolve as an artist, and how age doesn't matter in rock n roll. It's sure to please both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
