Pete Davidson lands role as Joey Ramone in Netflix biopic

'I slept with Joey Ramone' biopic coming to Netflix

The anticipated Netflix biopic has the full backing of Joey Ramone's remaining family members. The biopic is based on Joey's brother Mickey Leigh's memoir 'I Slept with Joey Ramone'

If you're a fan of Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson would be no stranger to you. He's also been performing as a stand up comedian for years and has played Blackguard in The Suicide Squad.

Netflix has sent out a press release about the movie and directing the movie will be Jason Orley. If you haven't read Micky Leigh's 'I Slept with Joey Ramone' here's the synopsis from Amazon:

When the Ramones recorded their debut album in 1976, it heralded the true birth of punk rock. Unforgettable front man Joey Ramone gave voice to the disaffected youth of the seventies and eighties. The band influenced the counterculture for decades to come. With honesty, humor, and grace, Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, shares a fascinating, intimate look at the turbulent life of one of America’s greatest—and unlikeliest—music icons. I Slept with Joey Ramone is the enduring portrait of a man who struggled to find his voice. and of the brother who loved him.

Hey Ho, Let's Go!

Adam Fogelson (STXfilms chairman) shared some information about the project saying “Mickey Leigh not only collaborated with his big brother’s band – he has irreplaceable memories of and insights into Joey Ramone, having supported him when no one else would and witnessed him overcome adversity in the most dramatic way.”

When Fogelson was asked about the casting of Pete Davidson he said “Pete is perfect for this role and we’re excited he and Jason will be bringing this icon of rock to life and thrilled to be collaborating once again with our friends at Netflix.”

Not everyone is completely keen on Davidson playing their beloved Joey Ramone. It's not that they hate Davidson, some just don't see him playing Joey. One fan on social media said "I feel like he looks more like a skinny Adam Driver should play him, but not my project.,"

That wasn't the only post promoting Adam Driver, there was also "How is Adam Driver not playing Joey Ramone?" and @adrienbrody Would've been my choice."

Other Ramones fan posted "I thought Vinnie Chase was going to play this role." and "shaking my head and wondering why Pete was cast for this."

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing this biopic on the legendary Joey Ramone.
