Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot and Ghost team up

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot and the band Ghost have teamed up to release a new version of their Impera highlight “Spillways”. The song sounds great and you can check it out right here.

Elliot told Metal Hammer in 2022 “I thought it was absolutely stunning,” speaking of Ghost’s album, Impera. “It’s like a whole new genre of music — it’s way more Toto than death metal or any of that stuff. Like the song ‘Spillways,’ it starts off like ‘Hold the Line’ by Toto or ‘Jane’ by Jefferson Starship — one of those classic Seventies songs that begin on the piano before these big, chunky chords come in.” The Def Leppard vocalist went on to praise the album and said it was his “go-to album”

“Impera” marked the third top 10 album — and fifth top 40-charting set — for the Swedish act, Ghost. The album was produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace. The album sold 70,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release, which landed it at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 3 on the Australian music charts.

Forge told Metal Hammer about the song “Spillways” saying “This is an elegy for the darkness that most people have inside. When you have a dam, spillways are run-offs so the dam won’t overflow. That darkness inside us needs to find its way out.”

In a recent interview with Classic Rock Tobias Forge said “I would have loved to be what Mick Taylor was in 1969, coming into the Rolling Stones at their best era,” He said of the Stones’ ex-guitarist. “But I would have stayed around! That would have been a great experience. Very fun music to play. Definitely within the limits of what I can play really well. I spent a lot of time as a kid learning how to play guitar.”

“Otherwise I would love to play in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers,” he added. “I love what [Chili Peppers guitarist] John Frusciante does.”
