Happy 21st Birthday to MASTODON!Rodney
MASTODON Celebrates 21st Anniversary
It was 21 years ago today that the Members of the band Mastodon got together as a band. They’ve now turned 21 and are at legal drinking age (In the USA that is. If they were Aussies they would have had 3 years of legal drinking up their sleeves). Mastodon have made another funny video to add to their comedic video collection about the band turning 21. The accompanying message with the video read: “MASTODON is officially of drinking age! Yay! Thanks to all of our supporters who have stuck in with us over the years, and for the new ones, welcome to they party! It’s been a crazy journey so far! Can’t wait for the day we get to play live for ya! Until then, we’ll keep working away on new music.”
When MASTODON celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, vocalist/ drummer Bran Dailor spoke to Revolver saying it was “pretty crazy” that the band was two decades old. He said “I remember being on my first European tour with Today is The Day and we were with Neurosis and Voivod. Both those bands had been around for, like, 10 or 15 years at that point, and I thought it was crazy that you could be in a band for that long. [Laughs] When we were in Seattle recording Leviathan, I went to the Melvins‘ 20th-anniversary show, which I thought was an insane amount of time to be in a band. And now here I am. [Laughs] I’m in one of those bands.”
He added: “But I’m super proud of everything we’ve done, of all the music and art we’ve produced, and that we’re the same four idiots. [Laughs] Relationships are difficult, you know? Most bands that have been around this long don’t have the same members. We spend a lot of time together on the road — not recently, of course — and a lot of drunken craziness has happened. And we’ve survived it.”
Mastodon is in the studio working on a new album
As well as turning 21 Mastodon is in the studio working on a new album or two. It’s been revealed the band is working with producer David Bottrill who has produced many bands such as: Between the Buried and Me, Dream Theatre, Rush and Tool.
In a recent interview on the new recordings Brann Dailor said “We need an outside entity to come in that we trust to say, ‘These are the songs,’ but that’s probably not gonna happen, so it’s gonna be up to us to put our big-boy pants on and make a decision.” He continued “But there’s a few different ways that we could do things, so we are just sort of debating those things.
“Okay, all these songs kind of sound like they’re all friends, they all are similar-ish — they sort of have the same vibe, like a more doomy vibe, a more doom side of Mastodon. So we kind of like that idea — it’s kind of cool; we like that — but also there’s some rippers that we don’t wanna leave out. And so we’re kind of discussing whether or not, do we wanna do a full kind of doom-leaning album and then, a few months down the road, record the rippers and put a ripper album out? I don’t know. So we’re still sort of deciding how we wanna approach it.”
Sounds rockin’ looking forward to the new songs! Check out their funny video below. Happy 21st Mastodon! Cheers!
