The Offspring to release first new album in almost a decade

The Offspring new album due in April

The Offspring have announced they will release a brand new album. It's the fist time they'll release an album in over 9 years. Their last album was 'Days Go By' released back in 2012. What a different world 2012 was. That was the year the world was meant to end, according to Mayan calendar enthusiasts, maybe the world actually did end and we're just a distant memory.

They've already released a new single with the poignant title 'Let The Bad Times Roll' which seems like more of a dance track than The Offspring's previous tracks. It sounds a little like Outkast's Hey Ya!

In the before time back in 2019, Dexter spoke to Kerrang! about The Offpsring's long-awaited new album “It sounds like our old shit! That’s what I’m supposed to say, right?!”

"I guess it’s punk rock, but then we throw in a couple of songs that aren’t"

Dexter continued “I don’t really know how to describe it. I guess it’s punk rock, but then we throw in a couple of songs that aren’t what you’d normally predict. We have a lot of really fast stuff on there, plus a couple of things that you might not really expect from us. But I’m really really happy with it. It’s not completely finished, but it is 98 per cent finished. So we’re trying to put together a plan to release it.”

In an interview with New Jersey radio station 105.5 WDHA Dexter and Noodles were asked about the title of the album "Let The Bad Times Roll" being the most outwardly political song that the band has done. Dexter responded "I don't consider us a political band, I'll say that first. And when you're talking about 'Let The Bad Times Roll', there really is a personal side of this [coronavirus crisis] — there's a personal cost to people that can't work or have gotten sick or have lost relatives and all that stuff. So it affects different people in different ways."

"It could be about society, about personal relationships, or it could be about what we see happening in the world"

Noodles added "We try to ask questions. It could be about society, about personal relationships, or it could be about what we see happening in the world. In this case, it's what we see happening in the world on both the political stage and on the personal stage. So it's more kind of an expression of ideas that pose a question. At least that's what we're hoping for — rather than try to tell people what to think."

Dexter continued "When you say the word 'political,' that sounds like you're gonna try to force your opinion about something on someone, and that's not what we're trying to do at all. We're making observations and leaving it up to you to make your own conclusions."

The album is due out 16th April and shares the title of the single Let The Bad Times Roll.
