Everything We Know About Green Day's New Movie Nimrods

Green Day fans have another reason to get excited in 2026.

The first trailer for Nimrods, the upcoming coming-of-age comedy inspired by the band's early years, has officially landed. Starring Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, The Black Phone) and Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Scream 7), the film follows three teenagers who hit the road after mistakenly believing their band has been chosen to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve.

Directed by Lee Kirk, who previously worked with Billie Joe Armstrong on Ordinary World, the film blends road-trip chaos, teenage ambition and plenty of punk rock energy. The story is loosely inspired by Green Day's own experiences touring in a van long before they became one of the biggest bands on the planet.

From New Years Rev to Nimrods

Fans may recognise the project by its original title, New Years Rev. Earlier this year the film was renamed Nimrods, a clear nod to Green Day's 1997 album Nimrod, which featured classics including "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." The title change arrived alongside a distribution deal that will bring the movie to theatres later this year.

A Cast Packed With Rising Stars

Alongside Thames and Grace, Nimrods features Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from The Office, plus Sean Gunn, Fred Armisen and Bobby Lee. The combination of comedy veterans and young breakout stars gives the film serious potential to become a favourite among both Green Day fans and coming-of-age movie lovers alike.
