Gorillaz Celebrate 25 Years With House of Kong and Hint at New Music
A Milestone Anniversary: House of Kong Opens in London
Gorillaz celebrate their 25th anniversary with an immersive experience: the House of Kong exhibition, held at London’s Copper Box Arena from 8th August to 3rd September 2025. Fans can journey through the band’s history, exploring the origins of 2-D, Murdoc, Russel, and Noodle, witnessing Jamie Hewlett’s concept art, and even venturing into “surreal and interactive” spaces like the iconic Plastic Beach model and a disorienting dark zone that feels like “an exhibition like no other.”
House of Kong offers fans an exclusive peek behind the curtain of Gorillaz’s creative universe, a journey through the band’s years of mischief, musical reinvention, and trailblazing virtual storytelling.
Named after their legendary home base, Kong, the exhibition dives deep into the world of all four animated members: bassist Murdoc Niccals, vocalist 2-D, drummer Russel Hobbs, and guitarist Noodle.
Billed as an “exhibition like no other,” House of Kong rewinds to the very start, when the release of ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’ in 2000 introduced the world to Gorillaz’s groundbreaking virtual realm.
Live Shows & The Mystery of the Fourth Set
In a recent interview, Damon Albarn teased that at the four House of Kong shows, the band will revisit their first three albums in succession, and the fourth concert? That one remains a mystery.
“We’re playing the first album, the second album, the third album and then the fourth one is... a mystery.”
“There might be [new material], in that sense.”
These sold-out performances offer the first public hints of unreleased content and fuel anticipation for what comes next.
New Music on the Horizon: Multilingual and Monumental
Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn has revealed he’s been “incredibly busy making music”, and the result? A ninth studio album in the works, expected to be released in 2026 and featuring songs in four different languages.
Earlier in 2025, Albarn had suggested a release within the same year, sparking speculation that the album might drop in 2025—but the current consensus points to a 2026 launch.
A Legacy of Innovation & Collaboration
Gorillaz have always been genre-defying creatives. Since their debut album in 2001, featuring breaks, dub, Latin, and punk influences, they’ve collaborated with icons like Elton John, Grace Jones, Bad Bunny, Tame Impala, De La Soul, and Thundercat. Cracker Island (2023), their eighth studio album, showcased this ethos with chart-topping success and bold artistic statements.
The band remains listed as the most successful virtual act by Guinness World Records, a testament to their innovative use of animation and storytelling, pioneering an entire aesthetic now part of pop culture's visual language.
