'The Batman' puts Nirvana back in the charts

Thanks to the movie - The Batman, Nirvana's popularity is back in the charts.

Nirvana is standing at 141st most-streamed artist on Spotify. Not only have Nirvana's songs seen a resurge on streaming platforms but they're also climbing in the charts. Their smash hit 'Nevermind' has jump from #70 to #33 in the ARIA Top 50 Albums chart. The album sits at #1 on the US chart Billboard'sTop Rock Albums.

Nirvana's rising popularity can be thanked to filmmaker Matt Reeves. Matt is the director and co-writer of the new DC film 'The Batman' starring Robert Pattinson. 'Something In The Way' the final track on the Nevermind album features twice in the film.

A remix of 'Something in the Way' is featured in the official trailer of the movie. Matt Reeves told Gizmodo the reason for using the Nirvana track “[Pattinson has] that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse."

Reeves adds “There’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalised version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.”

Paul Dano, who plays the Batman's main villain - The Riddler tells NME "Something in the Way had a significant influence on how he approached the character. “In the script, Matt had actually mentioned ‘Something In The Way’ by Nirvana,” Dano said. “So that right there, that song, those words, that refrain, became hugely important to me. Nirvana became a part of that [character].”
